Yo...
Did you know that the 44th president of the United States is a BLACK MAN?!?
WOW...
I cannot even begin on how overjoyed I am to welcome the Obama's into the White House. Barack Obama. A 'savior' to some while a 'problem' to others.
Last night, when we first heard the news, students gathered from all residence halls on campus and came together on the lawn in front of my building. I was overwhelmed by all the people who shared in this moment of happiness together. People were screaming, crying, calling family members, trying to soak in this great moment in history. But like all good things, it had to come to an end...
Some students who were not as enthused decided to show their attitudes. Make rude comments, basically just being haters on the whole situation. Thank GOD that it didn't carry on into a protest or fight. I believe we were too happy to let anyone ruin it for us. We've wanted and needed this for such a long time. A CHANGE was needed and through Obama we can hopefully start to head in a positive direction.

This event and other things leading to election day have made me feel as though, history is repeating itself. Slowly but surelt things are coming together (or 'full-circle' as Mo-Nast would say). The world/country has tried to make great strides for our freedom and we have, but now its the time to fight for the respect we deserve. I think we will see some things that are out of the norm (as far as racism) but I think of it as a time for us to come together (in all aspects) and defend ourselves and think of this new found 'pride' the others have as the are only voicing the things they have been thinking for years. But that's only if it comes to that.
Until Next Time...know that, 'Obama is our president and Michelle is an AKA'
